Electronic Interference

Scientists who have studied the problem have concluded that electromagnetic signals from both inside and outside the vehicle can interfere with the computerized throttle. This can cause the car to accelerate to full speed even when the brake pedal is fully pressed.

Recalls

Over the last few years, Toyota and Lexus and recalled several vehicle models for sticky accelerator pedals and floor mat pedal entrapment. These models include:

  • 2007 – 2010 Camry
  • 2005 – 2010 Avalon
  • 2004 – 2009 Prius
  • 2005 – 2010 Tacoma
  • 2007 – 2010 Tundra
  • 2008 – 2010 Highlander
  • 2009 – 2010 Corolla
  • 2009 – 2010 Venza
  • 2009 – 2010 Matrix
  • 2009-2010 RAV4
  • 2009-2010 Corolla
  • 2009-2010 Matrix
  • 2005-2010 Avalon
  • 2007-2010 Camry
  • 2010 Highlander
  • 2007-2010 Tundra
  • 2008-2010 Sequoia

Don’t see your car on this list? You can check to see if your vehicle has been recalled at Toyota’s website.

Concern is growing that Toyota has not adequately addressed the sudden acceleration problem. In over 2,000 reports of sudden acceleration that have been documented, more than half of those were in vehicles that are not on the current recall lists.
